Three Reasons That Make Demolition Contractors Cheaper Than Renovators

2 Minutes Posted on:

If you are considering major changes to your property, be that residential or commercial property, your first thought is probably renovations. After all, no one jumps straight to the idea of tearing down the building they have lived and worked in for many years, but in many cases that is exactly what you should do. Demolition contractors can be much more efficient, cheaper and more holistic than renovators can, and sometimes, it is simply better to perform a knockdown rebuild. Here are a few reasons why that is the case and why you should really consider demolition contractors first.

Hazards In Old Buildings

If you live in a particularly old building (at least built before the 1990s), then there is a good chance that your property has quite a bit of hazardous material in its construction. Asbestos is a very well known problem, and it comes in many different forms and materials that were used in almost every aspect of construction. If you find that your building has some form of friable or bonded asbestos, many renovators won't touch it with a ten-foot pole. Demolition contractors can totally remove this problem for you and let you begin with a fresh start and safe materials.

Impossible Problems

One thing that becomes clear in any renovation project quite quickly is that not everything you want is possible. Most renovations are a negotiation of what is wanted and what is feasible, with the second option far more heavily weighted than the first. If you have a specific vision for your home or property, it is sometimes just not possible to build on an existing building. Supporting structures can't be moved and the internal structures cannot be damaged or altered in any way, lest they be weakened and come down unexpectedly. If you want complete freedom you have to start from scratch.

Speed

It may surprise you that often a knockdown rebuild is quicker than a detailed renovation due to all the restrictions being lifted off of your movements. Demolition contractors can pull down most structures in a day or two and from there you can begin work on the new building straight away, with total freedom. Renovations need to take into account all the different variable from which rooms and features need to remain untouched to how they will manoeuvre the heavy machinery and materials into the tight spaces. If you want to get back on your feet quickly after a major adjustment, then there really is only one solution.
